Overview

Botanical Name: Ophiocordyceps sinensis / Cordyceps sinensis


Order: Hypocreales


Family: Ophiocordycipitaceae


Cordyceps is a fungus that parasitizes insects. The mature fungus emerges from the infected insect and produces a fruiting body that is important in Asian traditional medicine. The orange colored fungus, Cordyceps militaris, is sometimes used as an alternative.
