Black mulberries (Morus nigra) are from the Moraceae family. White and red mulberries are relatives of black mulberries, producing white and red fruits. When ripped, black mulberries are sweeter than white or red mulberries. Black mulberry fruits are multiple fruits, about 2-3 cm long. Black mulberries are medium to large trees. Black mulberries contain a high amount of vitamin C (40% daily value [DV]). Vitamin C is a crucial antioxidant for the human body. Vitamin C is essential to produce collagen which improves skin health significantly. Vitamin C is best known to be beneficial for the immune system. Vitamin C may also help reduce the risk of chronic diseases like heart disease. The amount of vitamin K (phylloquinone) (7% DV), which is beneficial for bone health and normal blood clotting, helps wounds heal faster. Black mulberries also contain iron (10% DV) which is necessary for growth and development.
