Do not confuse with lanceleaf figwort (Scrophularia lanceolata), Maryland figwort (Scrophularia marilandica), Ningpo figwort (Scrophularia ningpoensis), or figwort (Scrophularia nodosa). According to one study [Brownstein et al. 2017], California figwort produces many of the same bioactive compounds found in devil's claw.
