Macadamia trees are endemic to Australia. Within the genus Macadamia, there are four species: Macadamia integrifolia, Macadamia jansenii, Macadamia ternifolia, and Macadamia tetraphylla. However, only Macadamia integrifolia and Macadamia tetraphylla are widely cultivated for their nuts. Hawaii is a major producer of macadamia nuts, where it was first commercialized on a large scale.
